The Hospitality Center is filled with interesting, generous people who visit and bring smiles and gifts for our guests.
A group of students from the College of Pharmacy at Rosalind Franklin University in North Chicago joined us recently. They spent time talking with our guests about the dangers of smoking and ways to stop. They also answered health related questions and brought sunscreen.
Volunteers from Grace Lutheran Church bring us groceries. A wonderful woman brings us books for our free bookshelf. Our guests appreciate having reading material that they can take with them. The students at Dewey School brought 40 bags filled with backpacks, toiletries, snacks, and other items.
One of our volunteers celebrated her 70th birthday recently. When asked by her children what she would like, she asked for men’s socks. I had the pleasure of passing them out on a day when the temperature reached 100 degrees. Imagine how good clean socks felt for our guests!
Each morning we receive baked goods and egg dishes from Beth’s Little Bake Shop on Central Street, delivered by Beth’s father! On the terribly hot days in July he also brought the guests cases of cold water. A woman stopped by with popsicles.
A brownie troop brought in bag breakfasts. They included, cereal, milk, granola bars, fruit and a juice box. What a treat!
Thank you to all of you and the many others I didn’t mention. You are truly appreciated.
