10 Beatrice Quire (middle), Hemenway United Methodist

Beatrice Quire was born in Jamaica in 1956. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in business at Fitz-Henley Business Institute in Spanish Town, Jamaica in 1980. She worked at the Edgewater Nursing Center in Chicago from 1984-1994, charting for the state of Illinois on the resident’s progress under a licensed physical therapist.

Beatrice has worked at Evanston hospital for 23 years as a unit secretary for a busy Med-Surgery Unit. She continued her education at Oakton Community College, where she earned her certification in Medical Terminology and Computer skills.

Beatrice has always found time to help in her community. She helped a young woman with multiple sclerosis every Sunday morning for three years to prepare her for Sunday Mass at 9am. Beatrice has been a member of Hemenway United Methodist Church for over 20 years. She made a pledge to God that she would cook for fellowship hour every Sunday, and she lives up to her promise. She expresses her motto as: “God has given me the gift of cooking, so it is my way of giving back to my community in Christ.”

Beatrice has been married for 35 years to Selvin Quire, Sr. She has four sons and seven grandchildren.
