Mohamad, is a brilliant PhD candidate in the Chemistry Department at Northwestern University. He has been a tremendous gift to the Muslim community as he takes leadership in ritual life and community projects that help sustain the overall Muslim Life on campus. Inspired by leaders such as Richard Feynman and Malcolm X, Mohamad is always there to assist others and to give of his time and efforts.
Bahareh Poureslami is a graduate student in Voice and Opera at Northwestern, who brings global insight and perspective to the arts community and has a vision of music as a way to create social change that makes the world a better place.
Last spring, after less than one year at Northwestern, Bahareh created an interfaith concert called “Soul Sounds,” which included music from a variety of religious traditions and cultures. One purpose of the concert was to raise funds to support Syrian refugees. “Soul Sounds” was a great success. For her integrity and willingness to go beyond expectations in working with the entire community on the concert, Bahareh was awarded the Campus Life Award. Bahareh is clearly capable of great acts, but she is also attentive to small kindnesses. She always has a smile to share and supports her peers and undergraduates.
Alice Millar Chapel is proud to honor Mohamad and Bahareh, two dynamic and altruistic young people, as its Vision Keepers this year.
